Surfing and being able to catch the waves is such an amazing experience. Surfers undergo a totally different kind of euphoria when they are able to successfully catch and ride a wave. However, surfing, catching, and being able to magnificently ride a wave takes an amazing amount of practice, perfect timing, agility, and tons of trial and error and being able to consistently ride waves is a very difficult skill to master to most people. You have to add a lot of ingredients to the surfing stew – timing, lots of ocean experience, gut feel, balance, and paddling strength and stamina.
However, although rough and considered by many as an activity that is off the grid and done by people who like to break rules because of the degree of difficulty of this outdoor sport, the activity is filled with do’s and don’t’s, rules and ethics that are followed strictly by the people who take part in this astounding adventure in water. In fact, you may be surprised to discover that there is a lineup that is followed in surfing and the lineup refers to the line of surfers that stands there and patiently waits for their turn in catching their own wave hoping that when it is already their turn to roll out there, the wave that comes out is a majestic one, a huge wall of water that would really challenge them and make them famous. Keep in mind that there is an etiquette that is followed by most surfers wherever they go, and that is, if you are not that savvy yet in catching your own waves, you have to be polite and steer clear from the path of other surfers. The reason for this is when you are at the stage when you still have a lot of learn, you will be falling all over the place and wasting as many waves as you will. The good thing about surfer ethics is that great surfers do not mind newbies, in fact they encourage them as long as you do not disturb the others who are trying to catch their own waves. You can even try the peaks that professional surfers are using but just make sure that you do not come out as a nuisance and hog all the good waves because they might shun you and that would be disadvantageous to someone who genuinely wants to learn.
The ocean has a rhythm and you have to learn to play by its rules, otherwise if you do not, then you will never learn. The ocean does not follow you, you follow the ocean.sit down and note how the waves come in sets. Before you run out there and catch the waves, take a few moments asses the strength of the waves and their general direction. It is always good to see how the ocean reacts from the outside because when you are in it, it becomes a totally different experience.
