How to Find an Appropriate Place to Surf

Every surfer dreams of the perfect swell that can get them stoked.  But they are at the mercy of the elements and with how the ocean will behave.  However there are places appropriate for surfing as they create good waves for riding.

The good news is that whatever part of the globe you are located; there are bodies of water fit for surfing.  However there are dream destinations that surfers would like to ride on if they can.

Choosing the appropriate location for beginners

Here are a few tips on how to pick out the perfect spot for you to start practicing your moves before you hit the big waves.

1. Don’t go to beaches with very large aggressive waves as you are just starting.
2. Look for long white water break to give you an extra push for your board without having for you to necessarily drop into a wave.
3. Choose a beach with sloping sandy bottom, this way you don’t have to paddle out; and make sure the waves are slow-moving and relatively gentle.

Dream Destination for Surfers

Now, if you are in the advanced level and you want to experience the swells of the famous beaches all over the globe you might wanna try some of these places:

Kuta, Bali Indonesia.  This island is famous for its grinding left hand reef breaks and it has long sandy shoreline that is also good for beginners even.  May and September months offer you the best offshore winds and party atmosphere.

Surfer’s Point, Barbados.  This has a tropical setting and it is the home of the popular Zed’s Surfing Adventures for those who want to take surfing classes.
Byron Bay, Australia.  The land down under is popular for its surfer dudes.  This place offers you with a variety of waves to suit different types of surfers.  You can pick out the gentle waves of Watego Beach and of Tallows and The Wreck.
Lagos, Portugal.  The town of Algarve is a breathtaking venue and it is the home of many surf schools in the region.  The beach is within a 30 minute drive only making it really accessible.
Waikiki, Hawaii.  Well, this is where surfing is born.  Who wouldn’t want to ride the waves of Hawaii?  It offers surfers some fun time by giving them long rides because of the gentle rolling waves.  Their beach also give you waves the whole year round with its summer months between June to August consistent with south swells.

Where Not to Go
There are several places you might not want to go to at all.  Here’s a list of places that won’t be so appropriate for surfing:

• North Shore, Hawaii: super waves up 10 feet hight.
• Coolangatta, Australia
• Port Elizabeth, South Africa: can you spell sharks?
• Fuerte Ventura, Canary Islands
• Puerto Escondido, Mexico

So what are you waiting for?  Get your surfboards ready and try out those places?  Well given of course that you have the funds to go around the world to catch their waves and wonderful beaches.
